Amena Ali - Project Coordinator & Events Director

Believing education is the key to a successful future and inspired by a visit to India in 2004, Amena started the first Abhilasha Project chapter at her college to help raise funds for the Abhilasha School for the blind and handicapped in India and create awareness about the issues surrounding underprivileged populations.

Committed to volunteerism, Amena has organized several concerts in a senior residence and volunteered in the summer of 2006 in the Philippines teaching English and working in a local orphanage. Amena was chosen as one of 20 recipients of the 2007 TD Canada Scholarships for Outstanding Community Leadership and the Millennium Foundation Excellence Award 2007. She is also a two-time recipient of the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec’s Award for academic excellence and community involvement.

Amena hopes to pursue a career in international and human rights law and is currently in her last year of Law school at the University of Ottawa.
